Meet the Pastor

Reverend Charles E. Jones is a native of Dallas, Texas and moved to Houston at an early age. He is an only child raised by a single parent, his mother, Doris Burton. Being an only child in a single parent household, Reverend Jones quickly learned to lean and depend on God for guidance and direction.

As years passed he encountered several obstacles in his life, which have shaped his character and propelled him to be looked up to as a leader among his peers and relatives.

Reverend Jones has over 20 years of corporate management experience. However, his greatest calling was in 1983 when God employed him to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He was licensed on June 29, 1986 by Pastor W. James Foreman and served as Associate Minister at Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church for 3 years. After this time of ministry, he moved his membership to The Garden of Gethsemane BC, where he served in the youth and young adult ministry for several years under the leadership of Pastor R. E. Daniels. His desire and ability to reach the youth was the driving force of his ministry.

Reverend Jones has served as youth pastor at Christian Bible Baptist Church and Alief Baptist Church, touching and changing the lives of many youth and their families in Houston and surrounding communities.

In October of 2004, he joined The Church at Bethel’s Family where Walter August Jr. is the Senior Pastor. In January 2008 he was hired as full-time Pastoral Care and Facilities Manager. While at Bethel’s Family, he served as the Single’s Ministry Leader, Discipleship Ministry Leader and Prison Ministry Leader.

In October of 2011, he was elected as Senior Pastor of The New Hope MBC in Clute, Texas! As Pastor, he has envisioned a church that not only grows spiritually and numerically, but a church that effects positive change within the City of Clute, and The County of Brazoria, therefore God touched his heart with the new mission of the church, “Changing Lives and Giving Hope!” With this in mind, they have begun to reach out to the community with additional food initiatives such as Thanksgiving Outreach, and Blessing in A Bowl. The church also is working with different non-profits within the community, such as The Pregnancy Help Center, The Dream Center, River of Hope, along with various other entities. He believes that the Best is still yet to come! So please pray with and for the vision of New Hope MBC.

He is married to Dianne Jones, and they are the proud parents of three children, Charles, Trina, and Darius. They are the loving grandparents to nine grandchildren.

The Lord has given Reverend Charles Jones a strong desire to love and serve His people and it is embedded in his heart to do that to the best of his ability.

His often quotes and finds strength in his favorite scripture: Psalm 37:1-5

Church History

In The Beginning

Our bold new venture began in January 1981, when a faithful few met for worship service in the Richwood home of Willie and Cora Bolden. Although a temporary arrangement, God continued to bless our tiny flock with a weekly place in the fellowship hall of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Then, two months later, in March, we moved our worship services to the Brazosport Hilton Inn in Lake Jackson with weekly auxiliary meetings held in various members’ homes.

After much prayer and guidance from God, our small congregation was led to formally organize a church. On the evening of April 7, 1981, the congregation of forty-seven men, women and children, met at True Honor Baptist Church in Clute and was officially organized as the New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. We called as pastor, Rev. George Abram, who served from 1981-1991. On July 7, 1981, the church charter was formally adopted.

With continual growth and with the Lord's blessings, we moved our worship services to the cafeteria of Bess Brannen School where we remained from 1982 until 1985
